TO THE AAOMP MEMBERSHIP:

Dear colleagues and friends,

I hope all of you are staying safe and avoiding COVID-19. Things are sort of at cross-roads. It appears that we are going to continue to have surges and virus outbreaks, and at the same time, there appear to be some really great anti-virals arriving on the market. Apparently, we will be living with this as an endemic virus forever. I think now that spring has finally arrived, and we’re finally getting a handle on this viral pandemic, it’s time to remember to register for our exciting AAOMP annual meeting. This year the meeting will take place April 8-13, 2022, at the Sheraton Hotel in Charlotte, North Carolina. Charlotte, as you know is a large airline hub, and should be easy access from most parts of the country. I know many of you are aware we are having it on site, not virtual this year. We will be taking several precautions to keep our members safe. We will require masking in the in-door facilities, and do as much as we can as far as safe-distancing of the members. We will also be using a software package called Clear Health application. This will allow us to verify active vaccine status, and allow you to have easy access to the meetings. We also plan on having a vaccine requirement for all attendees. Hopefully this will keep us all safe, and able to participate in these important on-site functions.
This year’s meeting should be a really exciting one as we have an outstanding group of speakers that Dr. Elizabeth Bilodeau and the AAOMP education committee has put together. Dr. Christel Haberland will be presenting the AAOMP seminar on pediatric oral path. We will then have Dr. Justin Bishop present on WHO updates. Dr. Bishop is certainly one of our academy favorites. Dr. Scott Kilpatrick will be presenting on bone pathology, and Dr. John Reith will be presenting on soft tissue pathology. Both of these outstanding clinicians are at the Cleveland Clinic and are very knowledgeable and great presenters. To top off this truly outstanding program, we’ll have our own Dr. Carl Allen presenting on clinical oral pathology, specifically oral mucosal ulcerative lesions. I am truly looking forward to hearing these outstanding speakers, as I hope you are too. Of course, we will also have the continued competency assurance exam on-site, and the clinical pathological conference with presenters and discussions moderated by Vice President, Raj Gopalakrishnan. Our president elect Paul Edwards will be the moderator for our abstract presentations, and of course we will have our outstanding poster sessions.
Instead of having chat-rooms, this time we will be able to have individual groups, get together, meet and socialize and that will really be an exciting change. So please register for this amazing 2022 annual AAOMP meeting, and I truly hope to see you all in person in April.

With all my best wishes,
Donald M. Cohen, DMD, MBA,
President of American Academy of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology
